John-Paul Philippe Organic modernism

American artist and designer imagines metallic panel installations and abstract colorful paintings, all reminiscent of the early times of Modernism.

Born in 1955, Philippe started his career as a painter. His instrumental encounter - in London - with Simon Doonan changed his path, when Barney’s artistic director commissioned him with a mural piece for the store. As the successful collaboration evolved, the artist began to explore form itself, through sculpture. He was offered the whole front-window of Barney’s in New-York and, soon, his creation were seen across the United-Sates and in Japan. From painting to sculpture and interior design, John-Paul Philippe’s mind knows no boundaries.

Leclaireur Los Angeles hosts a prized selection of John-Paul Philippe pieces.
