Valery Kovalska’s 2017 Spring/Summer collection exudes coolness and a certain dolce vita rhythm, in perfect unisson with the season.
Since her first show in March 2010 during Ukrainian Fashion Week, the young designer has maintained a steady and edgy style, with riveting angular lines and mystical vibrations. The press, here and abroad, were quick to notice, and so it was that Kovalska was invited, but six mere months later, to present her Spring Summer 2011 collection during London Fashion Week. Titled « Professional Suicide » – yes, you read right, it already previewed the designer’s audacious vision.
This season, Valery Kovalska reminisces: seaside trips, sun, summery tenderness… The pieces seem intent on creating space for the body to express itself. The clothes become both more voluminous and lighter, the sleeves widen, the dresses drape again and again, just like waves, and invite us to dream, yet keep us grounded with arty asymmetrical lines.
The white tones of foam and clouds meet the blue of sea and sky. Together, these colours freshen up the silhouette with patterns that echo Hokusai’s prints, complete with a serene Japanese attitude.
