What began as pure artistic interest, thirtysome years ago, between LECLAIREUR’s founding couple and Fornasetti, turned into a creative, fertile and heartfelt friendship, leading to outstanding collaborations, among which an exclusive candle, LECLAIREUSE, and Europe’s, if not the world’s largest Fornasetti collection.
Martine & Armand Hadida’s passion for the designer’s work is such that it makes sense they’d want to share it with those lucky enough to only discover it now. The Maison is prominently featured in the latest LECLAIREUR space in Los Angeles, across all three floors. The space, including its « home away from home » residence, hosts a large selection of extremely rare pieces, including furniture, that shed a light on Fornasetti’s approach and vibrant esthetic. Their trompe-l’oeil buffets, chests with drawers and wooden screens depict architectural, mystical, whimsical scenes imagined to make every interior unique… Every detail counts, each piece surprises.
Slide down the rabbit hole to Fornasetti’s wonderland, where no one’s head will fall off, safe Lina Cavalieri’s maybe, an all-time muse of the Italian House, whose singular features led her to be considered as “the most beautiful face in the world”.
So much beauty to seize… Piero Fornasetti set out to accomplish the impossible, transforming that face 299 times between 1952 and 1966, a work continued by his son Barnaba leading to more than 400 variations today. In Fornasetti’ s psyche, Cavalieri boldly stars as the Queen of Heart, the Cheshire Cat and Alice in one same stroke of Fornasetti’s heart, as he reinvents his inspiration’s incarnation before gracing every object – plates, vases, chairs, even – with its features. Once an Indian princess, always a pirate, here timid, there lighthearted, in a second, swallowed by a crocodile, in an instant, off flying on the wings of a butterfly… Fornasetti’s imagination knows no bounds, it is limitless and unpredictable.
The first 100 of these variations have been assembled in a limited edition and handmade book exploring the art of reinterpretation and going back to the roots of the founder’s craft: printing and publishing.
The collectable and only 100 copies of “TEMA E VARIAZIONI, the first series” are available to discover at LECLAIREUR Boissy d’Anglas, exclusively in France and by appointment only.
