Junya Watanabe

Junya Watan­abe is the pro­tege of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo. Begin­ning at Comme des Garçons as an appren­tice pattern-maker, he even­tu­ally went on to design his own line, Junya Watan­abe Comme Des Garçons in 1993 and began show­ing in Paris that same year. His designs are both highly dis­tinc­tive and tech­no­log­i­cally inno­v­a­tive. The label is well known for the use of finely-tuned shapes and tai­lor­ing as well as for decon­struct­ing clas­sic designs and jux­ta­po­si­tion of materials.
