Simplicity at its purest
Celine Vipiana founded Celine, her French Couture House, in 1945, and built up its renown with leather goods – and handbags, specifically. Phoebe Philo has been Celine’s creative director since 2009, working from London where she lives. Her very defined style includes straight and clean cuts, and a stripped down esthetic.
Born in Paris, Phoebe Philo graduated London’s Central Saint Martins in 1996 and started working as Stella McCartney’s assistant, Chloé’s creative director, before taking her succession in 2001. Seven years later, she was chosen as Céline’s creative director, and presented her first collection with the House during the Parisian Spring/Summer 2010 fashion week. Pushing clothes away from the body, she gave the Céline silhouette more latitude and flow, lightening it yet keeping its spirited poise.
Phoebe Philo was listed, in the “icon” section, by the Time Magazine as one of 2014 100 most influential people of the year.
For Fall/Winter 2016, Philo gathered shine, thickened tweed and enlarged volumes, on zipped leggings. The neutral tones of the House get together with royal and sky blues, grass green, and saffron yellow.
